London School of Horticulture

The London School of Horticulture provides classroom-based gardening and horticulture courses outside the traditional college environment.  All courses are taught in small groups with experienced and qualified tutors.  We cater for students with all levels of experience from enthusiastic beginner gardeners, amateurs and career changers to seasoned gardeners and professionals.

A Year in the Garden
A part-time horticulture course following the gardening year while teaching the key skills and knowledge you need to become a better gardener
Aimed at the keen amateur gardener, including those new to gardening, it is also a useful foundation course for those interested in exploring a horticultural or related career.
This student-centred course is designed to
  • enhance your understanding of the theory of horticulture
  • actively increase your plant knowledge
  • improve your gardening skills
All while keeping you one step ahead of your garden if you have one (though you absolutely don’t need to have your own garden to take the course).
The course includes:
  • weekly classes with small class sizes in friendly, relaxed settings
  • detailed and robust horticultural teaching combined with wider discussion including students’ real-life gardening queries throughout the year
  • practical sessions and field trips
  • seasonal maintenance planning and guidance
  • home study tasks to supplement classroom learning
  • preparation for our Foundation Certificate qualification
The course runs for a year starting mid-September.
