Obama & Me is a play by Sylvia Arthur. Sylvia is a British woman of Ghanaian descent. Having completed three degrees and a career in journalism, Sylvia went to Brussels, to the heart of the European Union, as a communications consultant working on Freedom of Movement.
“I am a cog in the wheel of Free Movement. I am my ancestors’, my contemporaries’, and my descendants’ wildest dreams.”

But as the President faces resistance to his agenda, so does she as nativism, authoritarianism, misogyny, and racism sweep through Europe, and the world, and dreams begin to crumble.
Interweaving music, video, and images with spoken word, Obama & Me takes on the big issues of Brexit, Trump, US and EU race relations, and the global refugee crisis in a powerful, compelling narrative that explores the meaning of identity, politics, power, and belonging in the post-post-racial 21st century.

About Sylvia Arthur
Sylvia Arthur is a playwright and narrative nonfiction writer whose work explores themes of identity, diaspora, politics, and place.
In 2017, her short play, Haze, had a six-night run at The Vaults theatre in London as part of the Significant Other Festival.
Later in 2017, Sylvia’s one-woman show, Obama & Me, was performed at Brighton Fringe, showcased at Talawa Theatre Company’s Talawa Firsts Festival in London, before performing in San Francisco to a sold-out audience in October 2017. Having completed a European tour, Obama & Me is now tour in the UK.
