Canon Francis Makambwe died on Friday 10 October 2014. Francis Makambwe was the former vicar at St Catherine’s Church Hatcham, a predecessor to the current vicar Rev. Sheridan James.
The cause of Francis’s death is uncertain. As some may know, Francis had recently had a kidney transplant and there may have been some complications to do with that. Francis was 74 on 9 September this year.
Francis was a very special person and priest, gentle, generous, positive and kind to our community. It was Francis who allowed Telegraph Hill Festival to take over the church sanctuary for community productions, and supported Telegraph Hill Centre and the PCC with the development of Bold Vision and the creation of the cafe in the basement of the Centre. Rest in peace, Francis, good and faithful friend. We will miss you.
  • Canon Francis Makambwe’s funeral will be held at Southwark Cathedral at 11am on Thursday 30th October.

There will be a burial at 2pm (details to be confirmed, but most likely a south London cemetery) with a reception at Bromley Parish Church from 3pm. All are welcome to attend. Please speak to Sheridan if you require more information.
