An update on Branching Out and its activities

Many of you will be familiar with our key project at Telegraph Hill Centre… Branching Out!

For those who don’t know, Branching Out is a joint project between Telegraph Hill Centre and St Catherine’s Church, which offers a space for community members to take classes, try something new, connect with others, and get creative.

Branching out is aimed at individuals who are 55+ but everyone is welcome.

Branching Out is thriving! With many additions to our ever-growing family, new activities on offer, and adventures like outings and events to get involved in, there’s lots for you to get stuck in with!

Our art group is enjoying exploring new themes, lie mosaics and still life, while celebrating events such as St David’s Day with Daffodils, and Chinese New Year with the recreation of artistic scenes.

Alongside our fun and engaging Thursday art group, we have the infinitely valuable and helpful Catbytes, readily available to solve anyone and everyone’s IT queries. From phones and tablets to Blue Badge applications, they have the know-how.

We have also introduced guest speakers, such as SELCE’s fabulous Emily who shared top tips on energy efficiency in the home, and Rachel Ellis connecting the community to local resources.

We are also delighted to be partnering with the amazing organisation Feed the Hill, who offer food parcels and frequent thoughtful donations of surplus – thanks to local legend Stephanie. Secondly, we have joined forces with the wonderful Deptford Cinema for exclusive film screenings at the centre, bringing the movie magic to you.

We have also reintroduced outings with an adventure to the V&A Museum and to Ellana’s Pantomime at Christmas! This year’s celebrations have included the Table Tennis Tournament, our Christmas lunch and Birthday celebrations, alongside our popular weekly Lunch Club of toasties and jacket potatoes, made possible with the help of super volunteers and special members joining all the time.
